Wheat Penny Mintages


Mintage, as it applies to wheat pennies refers to the number of a given wheat penny that was made in a particular year at a US Mint facility. All wheat pennies (and every coin, in general) have a mintage number for each year that wheat penny was produced.

Wheat penny mintages can help influence the value of wheat pennies. Generally speaking (and everything else being equal), the higher the mintage, the more coins are available and the lower the potential value. The lower the mintage, the fewer coins are available and the higher the potential value. It doesn't always work out this way, but it's a general rule of thumb..

If you want to see how many of a given wheat penny were made in that particular year at that particular mint facility, just look up the year and mint mark of the wheat penny you are wondering about. I have listed the mintage next to it.
